Product Background
Details of Main Features
1. Development of a hybrid-type broncho endoscope that combines the thinner diameter technology of a fiberscope with the observation performance and operability of a videoscope. The control unit of the endoscope has a built-in CCD ( charged-coupled device ), and uses a fiberscope for insertion, achieving a degree of thinness that only a fiberscope can provide as well as the observation performance and operability of a videoscope. Compared to a conventional fiberscope combined with an externally mounted camera, the weight of this endoscope is greatly reduced ( to about one-half ). Moreover, the equipment can be set up and adjusted easily, enabling the optimum screen size while maintaining focus at all times.
2. New range of scopes offers either a smaller outer diameter or higher image quality. The BF TYPE 260, the flagship model in the series, has a distal end diameter of about 1 mm less than that of the previous model ( BF TYPE 240 ). It has evolved into a general-purpose endoscope that is very easy to insert, and it also produces high image quality.
3. The inner diameter of the channel for endo-therapy products has been increased, facilitating treatment using a broncho endoscope. The internal diameter of the channel for endo-therapy products of the BF TYPE 1T260 has been increased from 2.6 mm in the previous model to 2.8 mm. This ensures stable suction force during treatment using a laser or other type of device. Our UM-BS20-26R ultrasound probe fitted with a balloon can also be inserted, making it easier to perform broncho ultrasound examinations, which have been in the limelight recently.
4. A balanced lineup of four size endoscopes in increments of approximately 1 mm: 2.8 mm, 4.0 mm, 4.9 mm and 5.9 mm. The more one approaches the peripheral areas, the thinner the bronchia becomes, so it is necessary to select an endoscope of a size that best fits the location of the lesion as well as the purpose of examination and treatment. The EVIS LUCERA BF-260 series is available in a balanced lineup of four endoscopes that have internal diameters of between 2.8 mm and 5.9 mm, increasing in increments of approximately 1 mm.
5. Supports medical institution computer networking for improved management and system administration efficiency. A new memory chip allows users to keep a record of scope use and other essential information. It also allows the scope to be linked to the newly introduced Solemio ENDO Endoscopy Support System for digital image storage, operational history electronic recordkeeping ( including possible cleaning and disinfection recordkeeping in the future ), and bi-directional data exchange with medical institution accounting systems for improved diagnostic equipment management efficiency. As a result, an EVIS LUCERA system can significantly aid the process of endoscopic department computerization, and assist in the pressing task of reducing medical costs and diagnostic errors by promoting improved management and data systems administration efficiency.

- Broncho endoscopic systems are widely used as minimally-invasive diagnosis and treatment tools for respiratory disorders which are increasing each year, and are contributing to promoting health.
- Lung cancer currently accounts for the highest death rate of all cancers in Japan. Recently, thanks to the increasing performance of CT scanning equipment, minute cancers have been discovered in the peripheral areas of the lungs, and it is becoming increasingly important to perform confirmation diagnosis by sampling tissue using a broncho endoscope.
- In order to meet the challenge of broncho endoscope diagnosis of lesions in the peripheral areas of the lungs, Olympus has developed a hybrid-type broncho endoscope that is a smaller diameter version of a conventional broncho videoscope, and has also developed the EVIS LUCERA BF-260 series broncho videoscope system. This broncho video system is designed to enable the practitioner to carry out a wider range of examinations and treatment more easily, with less pain and distress to the patient, and with high diagnostic accuracy. This is the first time in about five years that the entire product line-up has been upgraded.
